HighCamp falls to earth this May for Friday the 13th, with a tsunami of favorites from the 80's New Wave catalog and more. Dress up and rev up to the era's great hits (along with stabs of funk, punk, and modern pop), including Simple Minds, Cyndi Lauper, The Clash, Bowie, The Cure, Madonna, The B-52's, Pet Shop Boys, 'Til Tuesday, Devo, Thomas Dolby, Dead or Alive, Men at Work, Pretenders, Eurythmics, The Human League, Depeche Mode, The Police, Bananarama, Blondie, plus Chaka, MidNight Oil, and more (whew!)
What is HighCamp? "High camp" — a sophisticated form of camp. "Camp" — a style; an ironic appreciation of that which might otherwise be considered outlandish or corny. "New wave music" — common characteristics of new wave music include a humorous or quirky pop approach, the use of electronic sounds, and a distinctive visual style in music videos and fashion. In the early 1980s, virtually every new pop/rock act — and particularly those that include synthesizers in their sound — were tagged as "new wave."
